Mérida is an ideal location for day trips to the many wonders of the Yucatán, such as Chichen Itza, the Ruta Puuc, cenotes, restored Haciendas, Mayan villages, and of course the beach.

In addition, Mérida offers an abundance of cultural activities which range from the traditional to the avant–garde, and include a world-class symphony orchestra, theatre, weekly traditional live music and dancing in the plazas, and art and film screenings.

Working Vacation

For those people who are interested (by necessity or desire) in a working vacation, and want to get away from the house (where there is wi-fi), there are two spots nearby where you can wile away the day in front of your laptop and a good cup or two of coffee.

The gorgeous Hotel San Angel has free wi-fi, indoor and outdoor tables and great coffee and food as well (especially the sweets!). Also try the friendly Olive Café Stop, which features organic coffee from Chiapas, ice cream and sandwiches, and is also an informal gathering place for foreign residents in Mérida.

A short cab ride away is Italian Coffee Company 
which has free wi-fi in an air-conditioned, quiet
environment. (Across the street from Starbucks, which has much of the same). (These are both on Circuito Colonias, across the street from the department store Gran Chapur Norte).
